The workshop “CARE-ABILITY: Empowering migrant women through micro-credentials in the socio-healthcare sector” was organised by IEK DELTA 360 in Athens, Greece, and was implemented on 15 May, with 25 participants. The aim of the workshop was to introduce attendees to inclusive vocational education approaches supporting migrant women entering the social care and healthcare sectors through flexible and accessible learning pathways. The event brought together VET educators and trainers, representatives of training institutions, public health stakeholders, NGOs, and students from the socio-health sector to discuss current labour-market needs in the care sector and the role of inclusive vocational education and training (VET).

The workshop presented the broader European context, including ageing populations, workforce shortages in care professions, and the barriers migrant women often face in accessing education, certification, and employment opportunities. Participants were introduced to the CARE-ABILITY project and its planned micro-credential training programme, which combines guided online learning through a digital platform with independent learning activities and flexible modular participation.

Special attention was given to the project’s educational approach, including practical care competences, communication and intercultural skills, ethics and safeguarding, digital literacy, labour-market orientation, and accessible learning methodologies. The workshop also highlighted the use of AI-supported learning tools, simulation-based activities, and mobile-friendly educational resources designed to support flexible participation.

Interactive discussions allowed participants to exchange views on implementation challenges, inclusive teaching practices, and the recognition of care-related competences. Several participants from other European countries also attended the workshop through the international educational and professional networks of IEK DELTA, contributing additional perspectives on vocational training and workforce integration in the care sector. Participant engagement was particularly strong during the discussion activities, with attendees expressing interest in future pilot trainings and project results.
